Working days are the weekdays between two dates, counting both ends, minus public holidays. Weekends are excluded automatically; holidays differ by country so you enter how many fall inside the range.

How to use the Working Days Calculator

  1. Enter the start and end dates. Both dates are included in the count, which is how notice periods are normally written.
  2. Add any public holidays. Enter how many fall on a weekday inside the range. Holidays vary by country, so none are assumed.
  3. Read the net figure. Working days after weekends and your holidays are removed, with the full breakdown beneath.

About counting working days

Counting business days is one of those problems that seems like it should have a single answer and does not. The first decision is whether both ends are included: Monday to Friday is five working days under inclusive counting and four under exclusive, and contracts almost always mean the former. This calculator counts inclusively for that reason. The second decision is what a weekend is. Saturday and Sunday is the assumption here, but a Sunday-to-Thursday week is standard across much of the Middle East, and some countries observe a half-day, so the figure needs adjusting outside that norm. The third and messiest is public holidays. They vary by country, by region within a country, and by year, and several — Easter most notoriously — move around the calendar. Baking in a list would make the result confidently wrong for most people, so the number is yours to supply. What the calculator does reliably is the tedious part: stepping through the range, skipping weekends, and handling months and leap years correctly, which is where hand counting usually goes astray.

Frequently asked questions

Are both the start and end dates counted?
Yes. Monday to Friday of the same week counts as five working days. This matches how notice periods, delivery windows and service-level agreements are usually written.
Why do I have to enter holidays myself?
Public holidays differ by country, by region and by year, and several move annually. Assuming a set would make the answer quietly wrong for most visitors, so you supply the number that applies to you.
What counts as a weekend here?
Saturday and Sunday. If your working week runs Sunday to Thursday, as it does across much of the Middle East, adjust the result accordingly.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The whole calculation runs in JavaScript in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted or stored.
